Thesis project: can we merge fitness into furniture, gracefully?
Backflip Fitness Chaise
Exhibited at Salone Satellite, Milan 2006

Backflip was my thesis project in university in 2006. As an exploratory concept piece, I hoped to introduce grace and beauty in fitness equipment, seeing that the mechanical and brutal fitness equipment are fundamentally mismatched with the aesthetic beauty it is supposed to sculpt out of our own bodies.

The study eventually led to a sculptural furniture piece made of fiberglass. On one side, it functions as a chaise lounge; flipper over reveals a fitness surface where one can do a variety of core and stretching exercises.
Quick overview of Backflip's development process: a study into Pilates exercise and current equipment; exploring potential archetypes; styling and prototyping. It was among a few pieces selected to represent the university for the prestigious Milan Fair (Satellite).

Functions as chaise lounge and fitness surface respectively.
