"The Inner Critic: Practical Strategies for Engendering Flow and Enhancing Creativity" facilitates an awareness of the cognitive creative process. This thesis seeks to redefine the term "inner critic", from negative internal dialogue to the embodiment of the psychological selves (self-editing, self-criticism, self-actualization, self-efficacy, intuition and imagination) that designers employ during the creative process. If properly controlled, identified, nurtured and preserved, these selves have the ability to enhance creativity and induce cognitive flow. The visual presentation of this thesis included portraits of the psychological selves and recordings of their development. Each portrait was created in one day and with no preconceived notion about the final outcome. Icons representing each self were animated at the bottom of the screen to demonstrate those that were active and when. During the thesis show, iPads were used to display multiple process animations simultaneously. The audience therefore became a participant in the making.
