Blanche from A Streetcar Named Desire

A Visual Interpretation of Blanche from Tennessee Williams', A Streetcar Named Desire
Sadly still a relevant character, #Blanche from Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, has to be a character that very accurately represents the journey of many Urban Indian women even today.
Purposely losing herself in vanity, she craves to see her sister break from the shackles that she has so tightly bound herself in. She romanticises being a damsel in distress, she feels the need to be taken care of, her desire? A beau.

A character so deeply flawed, makes her so real, so very real, almost a mirroring image of what any girl could have been.

It’s easier for her to contextually talk of justice but difficult to step out of her bubble and see her own internalised patriarchy.
A slow burn deterioration of this character is an eyeopener to those who believe that women who are, always choose to be patriarchs as well as to those who are blinded to how casually misogyny is ageing amongst us, within is.

Sharp yet blunt, this character is an ocean and a drop, all at once.
