For this assignment, we are to create a typeface befitting a chosen theme while also implementing a specified art movement into the typeface. For my typeface, "Surreal Roaring 20s", I chose the art of surrealism into the theme of the 1920s.

My idea was to take prominent objects/themes of the era and changing them in whatever odd way I can reform it but still relate it to its corresponding letter in order to achieve the surrealism theme. Each upper case letter has a sort of relation to its lower case counterpart and often tells a story.

Most of the objects are the basic use of musical instruments, vehicles, communication devices and (almost) human silhouettes. The inclusion of animals was mostly out of my own accord but also because the 1920s was when animated cartoons such as Oswald The Lucky Rabbit began to surface.

The patterns on each letter was inspired by patterns that frequently appeared during the 1920s. It was a very tedious process of fitting the patterns into each segment of the letters but it had to be done in order to make them more legible as well as further push the idea of the 1920s theme.
