The assignment
At my last semester at school we got an assignment to create a concept of a brand new hotel in Bergen, Norway. We could choose between creating a cultural hotel, or a plain business/conference hotel.
What the task included was to:
- Furnish and design the reception area/ lobby
- Furnish and design the corridor
- Furnish and design the two types of hotel rooms - Standard and handicap rooms
The concept
I chose to create a cultural hotel. I am a big fan of horror movies and crime-fiction, so I wanted to include these genres in the making of "Svartediket Hotel".
So the concept of the hotel is basically based on crime litterature.
The guests will see props from famous movies (based on famous authors books) such as "The Shining" (Stephen King), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larsson) etc, but at the same time they are welcomed to a classy and comfortable hotel.
In Bergen we mostly have chain hotels, and a few historical ones with no specific concept and not too much to offer the guests. With this hotel I think Bergen would be a much more exciting city to travel to, both crime-fiction enthusiasts and others.
