Album cover art has always been an aspect of design that I have found very interesting.  The most colorful ones always catch my attention first and the ones that keep with complementary colors are pleasing to the eye.  For this project, the assignment was to take an existing album and create a swiss style as well as a grunge style album cover.  To begin, I decided to shuffle all of the songs on my phone so that I would be able to hear and see a variety of different songs that I may have forgotten about.  It was in doing this that I was reminded of the song “Armed and Dangerous” by Juice Wrld.  I was drawn to the original album because of the use of bright colors and illustration on the front cover.  I saw myself being able to work on this album and make two alternative versions.  The first style that I worked on was the swiss.  To do this I focused on the hints of red and yellow that were found in the original cover.  After looking into some designs of swiss album art online, I was drawn to the vertical line structure and repetition of words.  I was able to incorporate this into my own album by creating red and yellow vertical lines and having “Armed and Dangerous” repeat down the cover in the font “impact”.  I wanted to stay away from the “Helvetica” font that was typical of swiss style but still have a sans serif font.  For my grunge poster I was able to have more fun.  I used all of the same colors from the original album, focusing specifically on the purple and pink.  First, I had the lyrics of the song repeated in the very back layer.  Then, I added brush strokes of the colors used as a layering effect.  I added shapes with different filters that allowed them to appear distressed, and then included the original illustration but added an oil paint effect.  The font that I used for the text “Armed and Dangerous”, was called “battery park”.  Overall I had a fun time working on this project and am proud of the results of my two designs.
