Flora & Fauna Cocktail Lounge

THE PROCESS
OVERVIEW
Early on I decided to create an Art Deco themed cocktail lounge which I then named Flora & Fauna. To go along with the words flora and fauna, which mean plants and animals, I chose the colors pink and green to go along with the primary Art Deco colors, black and gold, for the lounge. I then began researching different styles of Art Deco typography and took inspiration from many typefaces, as seen in my sketches. After deciding on my typography, I vectorized it as a postcard and began tweaking my typography and graphic elements based on our class critique sessions. Some changes I made to the initial typographic design was adjusting the bars at the top of the "F's", adding a swash to the ampersand, and adding a teardrop terminal to the inside of the "O". Special features of the type I created is the bar at the top of the "F" in Flora resembles the curvature of a leaf and the bar at the top of the "F" in Fauna was inspired by the tail of an animal. After finalizing the typography, I went on to create a logo out of the elements from the postcard, as can be seen below. For my real-world application, I decided to embroider the "F&F" logo onto a black tote bag.
