Kalmar Castle, Kalmar slott, Sweden
Kalmar Castle is located on Slottsholmen by Slottsfjärden, where the medieval port of Kalmar was located. It has played a decisive role in Sweden's history since the castle began to be built at the end of the 12th century. During Knut Eriksson's time, a castle was built, one around the fortification tower. In the 1280s, Magnus Ladulås had a defense castle built around the castle, which then became the castle's core tower. Kalmar Castle, together with Tre kronor, Viborg Castle and Älvsborg Fortress, was considered one of Sweden's four most important strongholds, which held up the country.
