My initial thought when going into this project was to stick with an underwater theme. I was mostly focused on aligning my project with my mad lib and I ended up with a project that didn't flow well and looked childish. After creating this, I decided to go in another direction and I created a new three pieces.
For this piece, I wanted to display a contrast/comparison of something from the past with something from today. This year, the coronavirus has been a major theme so I wanted to focus my project on that. I compared people in hazard suits today with people from many centuries ago during the plague.
The images I used to create these brushes are on the desktop at school, but my intention with this piece was to make it colorful and pleasing to look at. I love to mix an element of space into my project because it offers such an intriguing color palette and really catches the eye.
This is my final result. I am very content with this piece because I feel that it catches the eye but also sends a message. It is so interesting how history repeats itself and I hope that I achieved a piece that conveys that message.
For my next piece, continuing with the old/new theme, I wanted to showcase the "stars" of many years ago. Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn are all prominent women and they each carry such importance in the world of film.
I used the brushes to make the look of each of the girls unique and I added a beam of light in order to show how they are all three focus points not only in my project, but also in life. I am very pleased with my final result because it is such a pop of color and immediately draws in the eye.
My last piece is a combination of peaceful nature with something somewhat alarming.I wanted to create a sunset brush because I thought it would be very cool to lay different colors on top of each other and achieve a very eye catching piece.
After adding a focal point, the mountain, I placed a red sunset behind it. Red is commonly thought to cause stress in a viewer, but I think in this case it brings serenity to the scene.
For awhile, I didn't know what to do with the space surrounding the mountain. I knew I wanted it to look a bit symmetrical and I also wanted to add something that was not nature. I decided on UFOs casting lights down because it introduces the idea that there is more on that mountain than is seen at first. I used a light beam brush and layered a few colors on the UFO to give it depth and make it attractive to the viewer.
