Papyrus of Ani - Ancient Egyptian Art Reproduction

Digital reproduction of a scene from the Book of the Dead, taken from the Papyrus of Ani dating from c. 1250 BC. It depicts Ani during the Weighing of the Heart before the gods in the underworld and contains the spells he’d need to safely pass this judgement.

Ani is shown with his wife Tutu, reciting the spell to ask his heart not to betray him to the gods and for it to be found in balance with the feather personifying Maat, truth and justice. Anubis weighs the heart and is overseen by Thoth, whose speech to the Great Ennead of gods recommends that Ani has “been found true on the great balance”. If Ani failed his test, he would be devoured by the terrifying beast, Ammit, at Thoth’s side.
