James Alton Bechand's profile

Building Community through Beer and a Shared Culture

James Alton Bechand is the owner of Aris Graphics, a company that assists businesses with creating a sales platform for their products. One of the companies that James Alton Bechand has worked with is the Bronx Brewery.

The Bronx Brewery offers customers an alternative to conventional beer drinking, recently introducing its latest beer, El Condado de La Salsa. The Bronx Brewery’s mission is to use beer as a conduit for building inclusivity, creativity, and community, and this current product is a part of the larger Salsa Project which aims to keep the New Yorrican culture alive.

The drink encompasses the Cuban, Puerto-Rican, and African cultures, which often infuse lime, coconut, and passion fruit in their foods. The drink is not only refreshing, but it also tells the narrative of how salsa came to arrive in the Bronx, from the early fifties through the nineties when some version of Afro-Cuban rhythms could be heard through the streets of El Barrio and the South Bronx.

The drink complements the company’s Salsa Project, an initiative focused on attracting more young people to the music so that it and its accompanying dance can be passed on to future generations. This project uses docuseries, merchandise, events, and community engagements to impart the soul and the vibrancy of the horns, castanets, drums, and other instruments that make the listener feel alive.
