Colour & Identity
DVB102 | week 5
During this week, we had the chance to explore colours through a range of different medium as a way to express identity.
|  one.
Medium: Watercolour paint
This is the first one I attempted in the series. I started the process by randomly picking colours to fill in, instead of choosing a predetermined palette. I was quite content with the darker areas (hair and shadows), but not so much with the face - the red and orange together seem a bit off.  The process was very fun, as I was able to go with the flow, however the result turned out quite different from what I expected. Nonetheless, I like how the unexpected colours are giving me a mature and simple personality.

As for the medium, painting with watercolour and brushes felt really satisfyting. I would love to futher explore the medium in the future, to be able to achieve more artistic and creative effects.
|  two.
Medium: Watercolour pencils
With the lessons I learned from the previous one, I decided to experiment with colours and pick a fixed palette before starting the painting process. This time I went with a more vibrant and dynamic colour palette, which painted me as a more lively person.

Painting with watercolour pencils is very interesting as well. I felt that there is more control over the details and texture when compared with watercolour paint. Generally, I am contend with this first attempt with the medium.
|  three.
Medium: Chalk pastels
For this one, I decided to go with one single colour, as pastels are more difficult to control when it comes to details. I chose the colour pink as it shows a more tender side of my personality. The texture of chalk pastels also works quite well with the colour choice.
|  four.
Medium: Old polaroid 600 colour film (black and red)
I started the process of this one very randomly, as I went through the folder containing my collection of postcards and old photos. I found this failed polaroid with only the red and the black picture frame, which I decided to cut up and make use of. The shapes and the colours show a more quirky side of my personality.
|  five.
Medium: coloured pencils
This is the one that I'm most unhappy with, as it was rushed and I didn't give much consideration to the colour choice. I wanted to incorporate some pencil drawing techniques (hatching, circulism etc) to give it some layers and texture, which still needs to be improved upon a lot.
|  overall reflection.
I am mostly happy with the results of this activity and did have a lot of fun in the process. However, as I am new to some of the medium, quality can be improved a lot, which I am hoping to do in the future.
