Notes
I started this task by creating a template on InDesign so that I have a clear layout for my drawings. I spent some time reflecting on which school memory to do and decided on this one of my time in an exam hall in year 8 and was asked by a friend for a pencil which i lent but forgot to take it back.
Notes
I decided to start by making a mock up drawing of my comic panel and added some drawing techniques from some comics I viewed. I wanted to go with the Calvin & Hobbes style as it was one of my favorite comics to read as a kid when it featured on the newspaper. I used cross hatching initially to show the shadow areas but decided to keep it simple in the other boxes with just hatching.
Then I moved onto designing a character as the main character for my comic and went though just 3 and decided on the crazy scientist look, as it kinda looks like a caricature of my face. In the final comic the character has hair which looks more like mine as well as normal clothes.
Then I decided to make the comic with more effort, experimenting with the way hatching works as well as how the text was gonna be implemented.

Reflection
The final comic was done well and I liked the character design especially since the darker clothes on the second character really brought a balance to the entire comic. I used simple hatching to replicate the shadows with a 0.05 mm pen. I used a solid style for the second characters clothes to make him stand out more since the main character already has large round glasses that have been filled with black. I used the copic marker to fill in the more spacious areas of the comic so its easier and uses less time and ink. I felt the use of empty space and a black and white style really went along with my Calvin and Hobbes inspiration but adding the final part which was a dramatic scene was different to their style. I used a close up shot of the character with the most detail and a dark background to give it a bold effect.
