We Have Never Met: Maria and Erik

Last year, I proposed to my friend Maria that we should create a photo project where each of us would use one roll of film (Kodak Portra), our Nikon FM2's and show a little bit of our daily walk through each of our cities, Cluj-Napoca, Romania and Warszawa, Poland. Originally intended as a possible photobook, the project went sideways when the pandemic took precedence and was pushed aside while we dealt with the changes. Now, a year later, we feel the time is right to share the project, give it some life and perhaps make an attempt at publishing this series as a zine...or maybe just do another one and publish those. The Project itself was intended to be a fun way for us each to visualize and appreciate our surroundings.
Maria and I have never met, but have admired each other's work for some time and this admiration is the real backbone to the project and our shared love for film and our surroundings that inspire us. I look forward to the day when we finally meet and can share a walk through a city burning some film but for now, sharing a project so far apart is a nice way to explore together.

We have chosen to not tell you which photo is from where or who took which one allowing our styles to speak for themselves.

Maria is a student who loves to tote her film camera around and passionate about capturing scenes that intrigue and inspire her, especially at night when it's moody and atmospheric. You can find her work here on Behance and Instagram.

As for myself, I am a freelance photographer with a passion for the everyday moments that we sometimes miss. I often write about some of my projects here: Erik Witsoe Blog
