My first design project was the iDEN product line. I led strategy, design and marketing for the iconic iDEN handsets and accessories for the Nextel mobile network. The user experience interlocked both digital graphical user interface and physical hardkeys, redefining instant communciations. The maculine industrial design language and audio cues set a new global standard what a phone should look and sound like, giving the device human characteristics for the first time. The ability to move from one function (data, text, voice) to another while in passive dispatch mode broke new ground in mobile media.
