Scouring the internet to find a solution to responsive vertical centering and coming up short, I happened upon a small comment that blew my mind. It was the best method for centering I had seen, but I couldn't find any resources that covered it in detail and only a handful that even mentioned it!
I set about documenting this technique and gave it the name Absolute Centering for kicks. The writeup became pretty comprehensive with several demos and explanations.
Satisfied with my work, I sent out a tweet to @SmashingMag and @Real_CSS_Tricks, and they both retweeted it, exposing my writeup to around 760,000 people and causing my phone to buzz non-stop.
Smashing Magazine asked to publish with them, and the article went live the next day.
In addition to being published on Smashing Magazine, the article was featured on CodePen's Picks and Popular page, and included in CoDrops Collective #76.
The response was extremely positive with many retweets and shares, even from @Dreamweaver and @snookca. Just like me, most people had never seen the technique before and were amazed at how simple centering could be!
Absolute Centering isn't the perfect, end-all-be-all method, but it is an incredibly useful, easy-to-use technique that I'm glad to have shared with the world.
