Musina crossing
The border between Zimbabwe and South Africa is a never-ending electrified fence topped with kilometers of rusted barbwire. The silence is absolute, broken only by the rustle of wild animals hiding in the bushes. At a first glance, illegal crossing seems impossible: the only access to South Africa is the official entry-point, at the end of the bridge over the crocodiles’ infested Limpopo river. Then, a closer look to the fence reveals a different scenario. Dozens of manmade holes, big enough for sneaking through with no particular trouble, are so well travelled that clear tracks are visible on both sides. Human being, diamonds, cigarettes and all sort of smuggling merchandise pass through, mostly at dawning hours. When a pack of wild baboons jump over the fence, it is then evident that no electricity is running through.  Patrol is almost inexistent. Or at least, so it is the official one.
