Open Reserve

Open Reserve, on the initiative of Laurent Joffrion, is a project of virtual nature reserve, constituted by self-declaration of people all around the world. Everyone around the globe could add their own plot to the reserve, through its website, and specify its features: fauna, flora, ground…
The goal of this project is to create a community around this nature reserve, and eventually, as the community will grow, to show that people care about the environment and have weight on environmental decisions.

We imagined an identity which would carry the ideas of travel, between geological layers and universal landscapes. We wanted it to be human and poetic, thanks to its jagged aspect. The logo exists in several variations, to show the diversity of nature around the world.

The main feature of the website is the cartography of Open Reserve. We chose to only show the plots which are a part of the reserve, and not a whole map. Thus, the shapes of all the different plots create together a new world, and this world grows when new plots are added. The users can then navigate through it thanks to different zoom levels, and at the maximal zoom level, reveal more information about the plots, with the appearance of their layers. The users can also filter which type of plot they want to see (what type of flora or fauna for example), and declare their own plot.

We created icons of the different fauna and flora categories, for when a user is creating its plot and specifying its wildlife. Those icons use the identity of the project, its shapes and colours, with orange being the fauna colour, and green the flora one.
