"Perry Mason" - Elastic. Main title design. (2020)

As a series where detective inches his way somewhat erratically from the obscure towards truth and clarity, opaqueness seemed a good core theme. I knew that for the title frame I wanted to show the figure of Perry through the frosted glass of his office door. From here, the idea of seeing characters and evidence and even the protagonist under a spotlight grew. Meanwhile, there would be opportunity for the feeding in of facets of 1930s Los Angeles, geometric forms and gradients which nod to the prevailing art deco style, and subtle indicators of the unquiet socio-economic backdrop.
