I had a pleasure to design an album for a polish band Kirszenbaum. SIĘ was released on Friday 22th January 2021.
"Kirszenbaum is Wyspiański on mephedrone. The Krakow duo revive the post-folk ruins, give them fresh directions and throw them straight onto loopers, juxtaposing Tom Waits and Junip with a Slavic twist. Zola shouts klezmer, Henry Miller dances with the Mummies, and the result is a melancholic intertextual carousel. Kierkegaard wrote of them: It’s probably jazz. Nothing could be further from the truth. Kirszenbaum is a joint venture of Kacper Szpyrka and Jakub Wiśniewski."
Kirszenbaum wanted a simple design with strong illustrations. To capture an atmosphere of some sort of secret organisation. A lot of freedom was given to me during creative process. From our conversations, texts and listening to their music I had a vision of pilgrim dog. The dog has a moonshine carboy on it's back (which was reference to one of their songs from previous album). Also I wanted to capture mice, as they were mentioned in one of the songs from SIĘ.
Those animals were the theme for this album.
