Seward Motor Freight's profile

The Truckload Carrier Association’s Driver of the Year

Founded in the 1940s, Seward Motor Freight was established to haul freight between Omaha and Seward, Nebraska. Later acquired by Wayne and Joan Tanderup, Seward Motor Freight has grown to become an award-winning regional carrier in the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest. The company is a member of the Truckload Carrier Association (TCA).

TCA runs programs to advance the trucking industry. Every year, the association names a Driver of the Year to recognize truck drivers who provide safe and reliable transportation in America.

TCA starts by issuing a call for nominations. Companies can nominate drivers who have been with them at least three years and have driven more than a million consecutive miles, accident-free. Companies can nominate up to five drivers. TCA accepts nominations throughout August.

When the nominations are in, TCA staff members sort through them and verify the information and eligibility of nominees. Judges select the top three and announce them in January. Grand prize winners are announced in March at the TCA Annual Convention.

The most recent Driver of the Year was Don Lewis of Republic, Missouri, who received a $25,000 cash prize. Each of the two runners-up received $2,500.
