Exploring a Cube
This is a project that was done in 2004 during my common first year studio in the Georgia Tech College of Architecture. The assignment was to use a simple cube to come up with something more complex and interesting. We started off by drawing simple patterns on squares, which we then turned into our cube. Using the patterns that we created, we were to make decisions about our cube, such as where to extrude or subtract.

Once I had my cube in its modified form I studied it by sketching it from many angles. After sketching it I felt that it was too simple, so I played around it some more and ended up subtracting almost half of the entire cube. At this point I made a small simple model of my cube followed by a large one. At this point I decided to cut open my cube in order to see what the inside looked like so I proceeded to do so with my small model. I really loved the shadows that this strange open cube made. This inspired my final drawing.

Not only did I want to show the interesting shadows created by my final model, I also wanted to show how I got to that cube. To do this I came up with this exploded axonometric view. From the original exploded cube I exploded the sides again to show the original patterns that I started with.
