Second sight is an expoloration of the pictorial possibilities of analogue photography. I paint the portraits with the colours and textures of the surrounding environment, and through the juxtaposition of two contrasting images observe the interaction between the portrait and the texture as they create a third image being generated by random chance. I choose to overlap the two images in-camera for two reasons: firstly to avoid all possibility of deliberate manipulation and secondly to make sure there's no going back, that once the texture has been overimposed onto the portrait there is no way of removing it. Thus the piece takes on a life of its own, far from my control, and is able to surprise me, disappoint me and sometimes mesmerize me.

This is an open ongoing project and I invite anyone interested in taking part. Please contact me if you would like to sit for one of these portraits and I will do my best to make you part of the series.
