Plot
Caleb Smith is a programmer for an internet company when one day he wins a contest. He is then flown to his CEO’S (Nathan Bateman) private and secluded estate and learns that he has been chosen to do turing tests. These turing tests are to determine the conscious capabilities of ‘Ava’, an artificial intelligence contained away within Nathans house. However, it is soon discovered that perhaps Ava’s capabilities of manipulation and control are far more dangerous that anyone suspects.

Analysis
The films name Ex machina is a play on the latin word Dues Ex machina. It centres around the main idea of the dangers of artificial intelligence and how easily people can be manipulated through its mere imitation and control.
