COOPED UP FOR QUARANTINE

25 SELECTED WORKS ON PAPER

I don’t think plagues are inspiring topics, but a long quarantine certainly gives an artist time to create. There are other factors too, such as running out of materials and worrying about where to replace them. At one point I had to use children’s brushes and student quality paint. Since 2001, I have completed almost 600 works on paper, during quarantine about 45 more some of which are shown here. Ample time to create does not guarantee good work and the trash bin certainly overflowed at times. Of course, there were days when I “hit the wall” and couldn’t produce anything. My inspiration comes from the place where I live, the country of Panama where I arrived 44 years ago. This is a place that has held a never ending fascination for me and a place that captured my heart when I got off the plane in 1976. . Please enjoy “COOPED UP” and let me know what you think.

WORD ABOUT THE MATERIALS

This body of work was completed with mixed media materials such a water color gouache and acrylic paints along with pen and pencil . Limited amounts of photography are also in my repertoire. No creo que las plagas sean temas inspiradoras pero una larga cuarentena ciertamente le da al artista tiempo para crear. También hay otros factores, como quedarse sin materiales y preocuparse por dónde reemplazarlos. En un momento tuve que usar pinceles para niños y pintura de calidad para estudiantes. Este cuerpo de trabajo se completó con materiales de técnica mixta, como gouache de acuarela y pinturas acrílicas, junto con pluma y lápiz.
