Desktopography 2020 | Zola + Twisted

About The Project
Desktopography is a project that came to be in 2005. It is the place to download nature themed wallpapers for your desktop screen. This exhibition features a select amount of artists and their work. It is usually released once per year, however, they went on a temporary two-year hiatus. They are now back and I have finally been able to bring forth my own contributions to the exhibition.

Zola
This was the first artwork that I submitted to this years exhibition. Since I love to give many of my characters names, I gave her the name “Zola” as its meaning is perfect for the exhibition. Her name in Latin means "Earth" and it means “quiet, tranquil” in the Zulu language. It took a few tries to get this designed right (the original version was more of a rainbowish slew of colors). The colors were too much and needed to be toned down to allow the image to blend better with the other elements used. I decided to opt for a tone that best matched the skin & tattoos.

Twisted
This was my first time truly dealing with surreal-ish artwork. I wanted this particular artwork to be different from “Zola” and any other work I have created up until this point. Needless to say, a lot of research in surreal artwork was needed, particularly those that utilized the ribbon effect.

Thank You For Looking!
