The Warlis are an indigenous tribe or Adivasis, living in mountainous as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra, India.
The simple pictorial language of Warli painting is traditionally created on the inside walls of village huts to mark special occasions such as weddings, festivals or harvests.
The Warli only paint with a white pigment made from a mixture of clay paste and water, on walls made or earth and red bricks.
Mehendi and sangeet
Mehndi  and sangeet are pre-wedding functions that may be considered to be the bridal shower of Indian weddings. While in mehendi intricate henna designs are painted on the brides’s hand , the Sangeet is the festive function with music and dance.
The Baraat & the doli
The Baraat is the groom’s procession to the wedding and the Doli is the carriage that carries the bride.
The Shaadi
The great Indian wedding is full of dancing, music, fireworks, customs and of course sweets!
This project is a traditional depiction of a modern day Indian wedding and was completed in procreate. The traditional line work and simplistic designs combined with textures and a touch of colour bring out the mood of a Indian wedding.
Thank you!
