This was a project where I created the artwork for Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album 'The Downward Spiral' in the context of a proposed 20th anniversary re-release in 2014. The idea was to continue the themes of Russell Mills' original artwork and re-apply them using digital techniques. This also allowed me to explore the relationship between technology and art/music - a theme that is also explored on the album. During my exploration I developed an image making technique called 'Digital Decay'. This technique mainly focused on the use and re-use of digital cameras and how they can be used to destroy or distort images. This technique was used to create the artwork for the vinyl sleeves as well as the imagery for a collectors edition book that explored the themes of the album and its tour history. Read Less
