Rijksstudio Award is the biennial art and design prize from the Rijksmuseum. With this competition the Rijksmuseum invites everyone to create their own masterpiece inspired by the Rijksmuseum's collection.
The winning masterpieces might become part of the Rijksmuseum shop.
Many images inspired this concept, mainly paintings. The repeating appearance of mirrors, easels, and windows, and the fact that the main subject (the artist himself, or someone else) is interacting with them, either by looking at their reflection or painting, creates a dynamic scene that can be manipulated. Presenting the perfect frame for something new. Therefore, I came with the idea to cover these frames with a mirror (or a reflective surface, represented with white space), so when the viewer looks at it, they would be inside the painting.
