The morning light rises over the fog in a valley near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the "Peaks of Otter" area in Bedford, Va. While I had intended to catch the sunrise elsewhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway, I did not arrive in time, but instead was treated to this magical scene of fog and early light moving through the lower valley. Sometimes the planned destination does not always work out as well as the scene you stumble upon simply by chance. ...this was one of those moments.

This journey was my first visit along the "Ridge Region" of the Blue Ridge Mountains which is located between Milepost 0-106. This region is filled with magnificent views of the Appalachian hardwood forests and sweeping vistas of the great valley's of Virginia.
