Project Outline
The Design Study assignment is the primary instrument of the Tectonics and Materiality course for considering architectural materials and various forces at work in a project/building. It acts as a comprehensive vehicle to demonstrate your ability to design a small project with clear architectural intentions aligned with an acute awareness of materials and their assembly. The project's architectural configuration will express the forces at play in the building's major components and detailed sub-components. Your Design Study project must apply the concepts and themes in order to create a design for a modest architectural project: a small studio for a mathematician. This assignment is intended to be a means for you to express your creative capacity to design advanced architectural elements, to select materials appropriately from a diverse range of options and to apply detailing strategies to develop a coherent assembly of building components.
