The city of the deads...

The City of the deads...
Cairo Necropolis, 6 a.m.
The sun rises iluminating the dusty "city of the deads"...
Empty and mazy streets where welcoming to my footsteps..
This silence contrasting with the caotic and noisy Cairo was music to my ears,
interrupted by a gentle breeze that created even a more mysterious aurea to this unique place.
This whisper made me fell even more the souls of all the past lives buried in this location...
It was such an overwhelming experience walking alone in this place...
This complex maze of narrow streets full of old graves is dated since  the islamic conquest of Egypt, located in the heart of Cairo and due to the city overpopulation this old graveyard was converted into a "new" part of the city...
Estimated population from 500.000 to 1 million of people live here, occupying old mausoleums and turning them into their homes, because of the lack of control some parts of this city are very dangerous because of thiefs, drug dealers and other types of criminals.
Lack of basic conditions to live is well present in this streets while all sorts of people are strugling...
I meet Sobrejj, Yashim, Ibrahim and Malak a family that lives in an mausoleum and gave a new meaning to the word welcome, the way that they treated me was simply mindblowing...Shukran Habibis
