Puzzling X25
The following images and graphics represent my interpretations of puzzle pieces. I was intrigued by puzzle pieces, specifically by their playful and bold shapes that create the conflicting themes of individuality vs. holism. I tried to make a range of graphics and images that depict the pieces in some obvious ways and others that are more surreal and abstract. Although I initially thought about puzzles as 2D, I also thought a lot about building/construction, and how to transform them beyond just an obvious flat picture. When thinking about puzzles, I also thought about the element of time and how long it often takes people to complete them. Playing on the theme of time, I played around with shadows, also using them to highlight individual pieces and the existing texture and structural shape. Now that I have done extensive brainstorming and refining, I feel that I want to continue using the subject within a sculptures and photography, playing with light, shadows, and created textures.

Here are some of the sketches and the brainstorming that I did leading up to my final 25 iterations above.
