Tic Tac Lumosity Journal Week 7

Journal Entry//Week 7
This week proved to be a very busy week in terms of the project. First and foremost the aims for this week were as followed
-Finish physical model
-Finish interim design presentation
-Slides and script for Pecha Pucha
-Continue working on Exegesis

This led to a lot of work being done leading up to this week, particular with the physical model. This is down to me wanting the physical part of the model to be as polished off as possible for the presentation. This lead to another trip to J-Block to use the knowledge I gained last week and week five with materials and create something great.

Physical Model
This weeks design process involved working on the final model for the project. It involved another trip to J-block on Friday but there was some work to do before hand.

The primary thing to do was to create two different laser cut models for the uni to cut out. These act as both the base and the top of the project, with the base have a hole in it for the pole to come through and the top without a whole.
These pieces were then collected and used to determine the correct dimensions for the tube. I was able to get the university to get a piece of acrylic tube to the length I was after.
The three pieces were then painted to create the frosted effect on the acrylic stopping users from seeing all the way in. It also aids in diffusing the light and create the effect I am looking for in the project.
The final part of the project was creating the base for the project to sit on. This involved going through the parts on offer at QUT to get an appropriate piece of wood for the project to sit on. This also involved securing a pole to this piece of wood for the project to sit on.

The pole represented its own problem. The issue was the bearings that were discussed earlier had an inner diameter of 19mm and the pole also had a diameter of 19mm. To resolve this, the workshop people helped me by firstly cutting the pole from its one metre length down to 250mm. It was then altered again by putting it onto the lathe to bring the diameter of the pole down a little bit to fit the bearing.
The bearing, base and pole is also able to be added together resulting in the final result of the base.
One issue I had with the bearings was that I didn't have a housing for the bearing for the bearings. This again resulted with the people at the workshop helping me on the lathe by forming a housing for the bearing. I wasn't sure what he first meant by the bearing but I was able to understand what he meant after he made the first one. As shown by the results the bearing housing is shown below.
Interim Design Presentation//Written Submission
This week was about starting and finishing the interim design presentation ready for submission on Friday. I started working on this last week and got up to around the 80% mark today. This gives me Thursday and Friday to finish the last 20% of the work.

The idea behind working on this is outline what each of the five sections are about. Each section follows the same form, firstly starting with outlining what each section is about, before saying the feedback from each section. This is based on the feedback of DXH701 and for section two feedback from not only DXH701 but also DXH702. After going over the feedback, I then explored how to address this feedback for each section.

The appendix is then focused on looking at a part of each section and addressing it in the appendix. This provides the foundation for this interim written summary for the first assessment in DXH801.
Interim Design Presentation//Slides and Script
With the deadline looming for the interim design presentation, now is the best time to do it. Focusing on working on the three documentations simultaneously to make sure there is constancy throughout (Assessment one script, written summary and exegesis).

At the moment I am making good progress with these two parts, aiming to get them finished off by tomorrow giving me the weekend to go over these.
Exegesis
Working off the template is good as it gives a good starting point for what to put into each section. This template and the feedback from the thesis provide a good foundation for the exegesis and am eager to continue working on it.
Trying to get work done in the exegesis progressively as the weeks go on. This means just doing a little bit of editing every week trying to get a few thousand words done per week. This aids in helping me not leave this assessment piece to the last minute and instead progressively work on it for the last eight weeks of uni.

At the moment I have almost two and a half thousand words done based on the feedback from the thesis and aim to have this up to eight thousand for the next journal.
For next week
With the presentation next week, the aim is to just get that done and ready to go. Based on this that is the aim for the week whilst also working on the exegesis a little bit more getting some more sections done.
