In theater, the audience often sits so far from the stage that the details we consider essential to everyday life are either never noticed or blur into the background. As a designer, my job is to make sure that even the blurs of detail contribute to the reality of the narrative on stage. It often doesn't really matter what the fine print says as long as it fits into the visual story from a distance.
