JELLYFISH TEXTILES
Jellyfish’s free swimming spirit/translucent nature and the vast amount of color present on its body soothes the mind of anyone who observes it. I focused on how to capture the calming nature of jellyfish for a therapeutic aesthetic effect. My goal is to calm the viewer and provide them with a sense of ease.
Mystical Creatures
Medium: Sugar

A creative medium, sugar, was utilized to construct the beauty of enchanting ocean creatures such as jellyfish. The intent of depicting the jellyfish in such a magical way is to contrast it with the subtle plastic that constrains them from moving freely. The truth is the plastic waste in oceans have only increased over the years and continues to harm biodiversity in ocean ecosystems, and yet so many companies still eliminate plastic into the ocean. Through this piece, in response to the prompt “plastic”, I hope to shine light on the beauty of a sea creature that we are slowly eradicating.

PROPOSALS

From the experimentation done in prior weeks, concepts were brainstormed through referring to physical samples. For all three proposals, I focused on how to capture the calming nature of jellyfish for a therapeutic aesthetic effect.
DECISION
