CORAL MOUNTAINS

A SERIES OF Uncanny ALPINE MOUNTAInscapes
& An ongoing STUDY OF EXPERIMENTAL INFRARED PHOTOGRAPHY

The last two months I spent on the road travelling through various regions of the alps. On the hikes high up in the mountains I carried besides my normal camera also my modified infrared camera with me. Enabling me to create ‘normal’ pictures but also infrared versions of the landscapes I was photographing.

Since publishing my latest project 'The Strange Series' I wanted to apply the techniques of infrared photography to the art of landscape photography. I wanted to experiment on how it can be used to create unorthodox pictures of mountainscapes and what the visual outcome of this unusual approach will be.

The result of this experimental approach is 'The Coral Mountains Series'. The series showcases various unknown and rather known landscapes of the European Alps in a different & colourful light. From Germany to Italy. A peculiar sight.

The idea was to step out of my comfort zone and take the landscapes known & familiar to me and turn them into something unfamiliar. Something extraneous & peculiar. Creating a tension between familiarity & unfamiliarity. Leaving the safe terrain to earn a fresh perspective. Through the use of infrared technology.

What is known to me. Turned unknown.

The lush greens. Coloured in coral.
