Avant Garde Typography Poster

Avant Garde Typography Poster
Avant Garde is a typographic poster aimed at capturing the essence of the Avant Garde type family, a sans serif font created by Herb Lubalin & Tom Carnase in 1972. My goal was to capture and meld together the grid-based geometric simplicity often employed in 1970's modern design with a hint of the electric energy associated with Studio 54 (Avant Garde was the Studio 54 logotype). The piece is designed to showcase the clean, bold shapes and angles of the font, while educating the viewer on its origins.

The challenge was to form a cohesive design, which included the name of the font, the date of origin, the creators, a descriptive paragraph, and that it was a sans serif font.
