Introduction

Art Deco grew out of the desire to get rid of the past and embrace the future in all its man-made, machine-driven glory. The movement rose and fell in the period between World War I and World War IIA Gatsbyish indulgence came down on a prosperous post-war America with new technologies. This resulted in evolving design to reflect and enhance the thrilling sense of advancement. (Tubach, 2018)

The designs of Art Deco emphasized speed, power, and progress. This art movement became more popular in fashion, architecture and jewelry designs.(Tubach, 2018)
Characteristics of Art Deco

The Art Deco style is in contrast with the Art Nouveau style. Where Art Nouveau focuses on organic lines and shapes, Art Deco focuses on clean lines and geometric patterns (Tubach, 2018). In particular, Art Deco designs are characterized by zigzagged, and triangular shapes, chevron patterns, stepped forms, sweeping curves and sunburst motifs (Art Deco Design Style: Origins, History, Characteristics, n.d.).
Art Deco in Modern Day Art

Art Deco is one of the most lasting styles to come out of the past 100 years. It has become so ingrained in our day-to-day lives that we often don’t notice it.(Tubach, 2018).
