Dachstein: Simony
Views on an Austrian mountain hut
Simony Cabin is a mountain hut of the Austrian Alpine Club, located at 2,203 m above sea level. It serves as a base camp for the whole Dachstein mountain range, especially the nearby High Dachstein (2,995 m). The hut was built in in 1876 at a spot chosen by Friedrich Simony, a geographer and alpine explorer. Food and other products are delivered by helicopter. Next to the hut is the Dachstein chapel, the highest church of the Northern Limestone Alps. From the hut, you have a great view on Hallstatt Glacier and the highest peaks of the Dachstein mountain range.
