Chase Pipes's profile

Artifacts at Museum of the American Revolution

Chase Pipes is a Sevierville, Tennessee, entrepreneur who guides the Smoky Mountain Relic Room and focuses on the purchase and sale of fossils, artifacts, and minerals. Among Chase Pipes’ interests are artifacts from the American Revolutionary War.

A 2016 National Geographic article focused on remarkable pieces in the newly opened Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Located near Independence Hall, the nonprofit museum contains the collection of the Valley Forge Society.

Established by Reverend W. Herbert Burk in the early 20th century, the society acquired the “first Oval Office,” the tent headquarters of George Washington. Other major acquisitions have included Patrick Henry's law books and a piece of timber from the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, where the first skirmish of the Revolutionary War took place.

Another noteworthy piece in the collection is a powder horn that bears the engraved slogan "Liberty or Death.” The owner of the artifact, William Waller, was captured by the British in 1776 after the fall of Fort Washington.
