(Animations) Qc International Peewee Hockey tournament

This project was done during my last year of college in 2018 from september until december. Every year, the college I used to go to would get a contract from the tournament to create animated bits to animate the crowds by making a animated version of penalties and a short animation of a luck or random based game. That year the school decided that the entire class would be involed in the project instead of it being only done by students who were willing to do it on the side.

Some news report made about our work on the project, some of my collegues and I were interviewed, you can also see the Videotron Center and our  class working on the project!

Here are the rendered versions of my shots including the race sequence. For the race, I animated the 3rd and the 4th shot. For the race we were given 3D scenes that represented as closely as possible the angle and the street on which they would  add the 3D race cars. Sadly it was not always perfect so the other animator and I had to rework on the cars many times. In the end, the last small issues were solved during compositing. I really had a lot of fun working on this with my classmates. It helped me get a small taste of working in a studio like environment and helped me improve my skills and my workflow as an animator.

That year I was assigned as lead animator for the team, we were given the task to animate a race between 3 cars (driven by the mascot of the tournament and animating some penalties to put on the giant screen. We were only two animators in the class so we split the workload in half and prepared some storyboards, found references or filmed them while waiting for the rigs to be ready. (from left to right) the storyboard I made for the racecar sequence, the highsticking storyboard, the holding storyboard, the first version of the slashing penalty that was not approved and the approved version

While working on the animation we didn't even have the textures because they were still being worked on

During our time on the project, we had a few bugs and issues that we were able to get over by the time we ended the project. But, because of that we lost time for rendering and the render team weren't able to render everything. Thankfully, the only thing that wasn't rendered was an animation of the mascot Champee dancing. Some of the bugs happened because we had to do some compositing for the race segments and on the character rig. When we would scale down the character, the hat would stay the same size and the arms and legs would strech... Just a bit. During the rendering for one of my shots it seems that one of the rigs was moved so you could see the hand clipping in the shirt during the holding penalty, I didn't have that problem in my scene when I sent it but it is what it is.
