Official website design created for Lil Dicky’s music video “Earth Song” in 2019. The website was created by RYOT studio in Los Angeles. I was brought on board from the pitch phase until the launch of the website, and my role included designing all aspects of the website, including the user interface, user experience, and newsletter.


The Challenge
The purpose of the "Earth Song" music video was not only to entertain and engage audiences, but also to raise funds for environmental causes and convey a strong message about the need for protecting the planet. The accompanying website was created to support this mission, providing a platform for fans to learn more about climate change and take action to make a positive impact.
Since the website is an extension of the music video, the main challenge in designing the website was to effectively communicate information about climate change and ways for fans to help protect the planet, while maintaining the playful and entertaining tone of the "Earth Song" music video. This required careful communication between music video creators, Dave (Lil Dicky) and RYOT team.​​​​​​​





The Structure & Wireframes
High fidelity wireframes for a quick visualisation of the site structure was created as a first stage of the work on this project. Also some prototype animations and transitions were created in adobe XD so we can quickly communicate ideas with stakeholders.​​​​​​​



Colors & Typography
The visual design of the website, including the color scheme and typography, was created in the next phase. The branding and aesthetic were based on the music video and included vibrant gradients representing the earth's landscapes and land forms.





Final Design
The website has a simple and clean look, featuring a homepage with a video player and sections on climate change and ways for fans to get involved. It effectively communicates the message of the music video and encourages users to take action on environmental issues.

Each celebrity is represented as a specific animal that serves as a symbol for the importance of biodiversity and the role each species plays in maintaining the balance of our planet's ecosystems. By highlighting the unique traits and characteristics of these animals, the song aims to educate listeners about the value of preserving and protecting the natural world.

The page has a colorful and energetic design that perfectly captures the playful spirit of the project. Users will enjoy browsing through the profiles and learning more about their favourite celebrity (animal).
 Fun fact: Lil Dicky and Leonardo DiCaprio were the only ones representing humankind.

I'm glad to see that the website is still active and functioning in 2023, despite being launched in 2019. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team responsible for maintaining and updating the site.







Education
Lil Dicky and his friends have created a series of educational tutorials that break down complex issues and provide solutions in easy-to-understand language. These tutorials aim to address the major challenges we face as a society and offer potential solutions to each.





Stay in the loop
The "Earth Song" newsletter has a clean, modern design and is organised into sections featuring updates, exclusive content, and upcoming events. It also includes information about how to donate to the various charities supported by the "Earth Song" project. The design effectively engages subscribers and encourages them to stay connected with the "Earth Song" project and make a positive impact.




The Music Video
Lil Dicky's "Earth Song" was a major success, both commercially and critically. Its catchy, upbeat melody and important message about environmental awareness resonated with audiences, and the song reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 
The music video, which has been viewed over 380 million times, was also a hit, winning a Bronze Lion at the Cannes Festival 2019 and receiving a nomination for the MTV Video Music Awards' Video for Good category in 2019. A big portion of the profits from the song and video go to various charities through Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
