A newly designed handheld metal detector for a better user experience with a more friendly design and improved usability. Because the design of the existing metal detectors is somewhat aggressive, people are feeling an inconvenience when scanned by them. In terms of security personnel using metal detectors, there are also many problems with the device itself. So, I tried to solve the aesthetic discomfort by designing a new look that is more friendly and aimed to improve the usability of it through user interviews and observations for a better user experience.

I changed the structure of it from straight bar type to swivel type which is more compact when not in use. And this structure also has a great advantage to avoid a risk of accidental physical contact between the operator’s hand and body of the person to be examined because the newly designed structure provides more gap between them.

The overall shape consisted of a smooth curve instead of straight lines to give a more friendly feeling. But, at the same time, by adding edges on its body, I intended to provide a feeling of reliability that the security equipment should have.
