Branding concept for the City of Saigon
Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) is one of the most attractive and well-known city in Vietnam . It is situated on the southeastern edge of the Indochina peninsula along the South China Sea , the city surrounds the Saigon River and covers about 2,061 square kilometres. It is used to be the capital of South Vietnam (Republic of Vietnam) from 1955 to 1975 and then renamed Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the reunification of north and south at the end of the Vietnam War.

Although Ho Chi Minh City has been the official name of the city since 1975 but the old name “Saigon” is still used daily by many local Vietnamese . I decided to choose the name Saigon for this branding project because of its simplicity and proximity to the majority of not only Vietnamese local people but also foreigners.

The purpose of this branding project is to create a visual identity for the city , making it more recognizable and more efficient to comunicate with the visitors.

About the logo
The logo contains 4 characteristics of Saigon . The first and the second are abstract of two distinctive seasons in Saigon which is rainy season and dry season. The third one indicates that Saigon is famous for its buildings , especially historical buildings from the French colonial period like Post Central Office , Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica , Municipal Theatre , ... The last composition of the logo is the abstract of Saigon river , the river that flow through Saigon and provide important water supply for the city.
