quarantine illustration series: questlove
At the beginning of the coronavirus quarantine way back in March, as a designer/artist I began to notice that creatives around the world were stepping up, giving a voice to what we collectively were feeling around the world. Both helping to define the craziness we were going through or sharing the beauty providing an escape. That's what Questo did for me! I've always been a fan of The Root Crew all the way back to Do You Want More?!!!?!! and Illadelph Halflife. So many of their albums have helped to define my life! During the lockdowns here in the US Questlove started sharing via social media these epic DJ sessions (please check them out if you haven't via The Root Youtube channel). Those sessions both took me back and gave me a reason to have joy and look forward to future when we're out of this pandemic!
Being a teacher I'm always trying to stay up to date with all the Adobe CC software. I've always been a vector head, so when Adobe Ideas, then Draw came out, I immediately gravitated to the app. I found a great recourse pic on the web found a pic (Ezra Petronio/Forbes Magazine). I enjoyed the existing color scheme and kept pretty close to the pic. One thing I wanted to have some fun with the hair and decided to create a halftone dot pattern. I took the pic to Photoshop to create the effect then to Capture to covert the art into a vector shape that I could then take to Draw and my illustration.
I am considering screen printing this illustration as well, just need to find the time. Please let me know if anyone of you would be interested in purchasing a print and I might make it a priority.
Enjoy and thanks for your support!
