Some highlights from year four of 'things you can look at with your eyes', an everyday project in which I create one piece of artwork each day on my instagram account. In year four, I went pretty deep into the rabbit hole of 3D rendering, character design and animation. I've described each section of year 4 with the ideas I wanted to play with in each medium for #thingsyoucanlookatwithyoureyes. Enjoy!
To start out, I experimented with the idea of what alien objects might look like when placed in a normal landscape. Inspired primarily by the Monolith in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, I've always wondered how we as a species might react to what happens when otherwise impossible objects appear in our midst.
After this, I played with the idea of some fantasy UI elements mixed with elements inspired by Y2K aesthetics. Following this, I then experimented with some fun textures and geometry.
In year four, while having recently discovered both Adobe Fuse and its accompanying online software Mixamo, I had an absolute blast playing around with character animation.
During Halloween, I played around with animating skeletons dancing, after which I had fun with Shrek, and then a guy who I named Fred. All in all, I had a ton of fun, and learned a lot.
Having exhausted (at least for the time being) my love of dancing 3D characters, I moved back to doing stills - using Adobe Fuse and a program called Daz Studio.
