This drawing is inspired by the writings of Isaac Asimov and art by Kazuaki Iasaki in their book 'Visions of the Universe.'
Here is an excerpt from that book that Asimov wrote about solar prominences:
"[Prominences] can be, and usually are, diverted along the magnetic lines of force, sliding down such lines in a great arc toward a sunspot. Since these lines may form a loop extending from one spot to its neighbor, the descending gases may do likewise and a vast arch of hot gas can form.
When such an arch happens to form over the edge of the Sun (as viewed from the Earth) it shows up as one of the most impressive sights in astronomy..."
