Unlock Museum Identity

This project collaborates with the Historical Museum of Communication of Rome.
As the brief required I realized a new visual reading of the Museum, trying to underline its value. The project has led to the creation of three products: a catalog, a series of leaflet and a series of poster.

The concept on which the entire project is based is linked to the metaphor of secrecy.
In fact to enhance the contents of the museum, I used the stories, the anecdotes and the secrets hidden by the objects that are inside the museum. In this way the hidden narrativity of the museum emerged through editorial projects.
Each of the products that compose the project is characterized by a system of signs.
The system consists of twelve symbols inspired by twelve selected objects that are inside the museum. The signs are based on the physical characteristics of the objects or on some conceptual details of the stories that characterize them.
1. Catalog
The aim of this catalog is to catalog twelve representative objects of twelve iconic communication stories.

The catalog is based on the repetition of a specific format developed in two languages (italian and english) and it is divided into four macro categories that distinguish objects in groups (Post, Telecommunications, Machines, Philately). Once the reference category is introduced, attention is focused only on the individual objects and anecdotes that characterize them.

Indeed, there are specific focuses on the physical characteristics of the objects, on their stories and their protagonists. For many of these objects a section was also created characterized by historical documents that testify the truthfulness of what is being narrated.
2. Leaflet
A specific focus was put on the objects and their categories through a series of four leaflets that narrate the characteristics of the object through textual explanations and their stories through photographic images. These leaflets have a double sense of reading: vertical for information related to the museum and horizontal for those referring to objects.
3. Poster
To continue telling the hidden narrative of the museum, a series of twelve posters was created, inspired by the stories belonging to the twelve selected objects.

The posters have a graphic style very different from each other to symbolize the variety of objects and stories inside the museum. All the visual artwork are inserted in a single graphic format based on the visual museum identity. The main feature of this format is that it is based on a grid that includes the aggregation of symbols belonging to the system of signs. On each poster only the symbol corresponding to the object appears in the position in which it is located inside the grid.
