Lunar Effect/Lunar Phases
Each Lunar Phase mixed media painting captures an imaginary moment of time. The work aims to create several layers of meaning, which the viewer can slowly, upon observation, unravel. Figures, animals and their environments interact with abstract elements that fuse a narrative of fantasy and reality inspired by the love of nature and concern about the plethora of environmental issues
In this series, the work incorporates photo collage elements in an additive, seamlessly layered process with textured, expressionistic painted surfaces embedded on 300 lb. cold pressed handmade paper. The theme “Lunar Phase” is inspired by the scientific term Lunar Effect that describes the correlation between specific stages of the lunar cycle and the influence it might have on plant forms and the behavior on insects, animals and humans.
It is my hope that the spirit of these works will act as a key to awaken what is already deep within the observer, a wonder and love of nature.

About the Artist
Jane Dell is a native New Yorker artist that presently resides in Easton, Pa. She studied at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts and received her BFA from Pratt Institute. Her paintings and mixed media art have been in numerous group shows located in Brooklyn, Connecticut, Philadelphia, New Jersey, upstate New York, Los Angeles, and Matera, Italy. This includes the Lesley Heller Workspace, Central Booking Gallery, Gallery Orchard 33, Emerge Gallery and the Fountain Art Fair. Her more recent solo exhibitions include the Chashama Art Space, Brooklyn Bridge, N.Y. and the Landau Gallery in Belmont Hill, Ma. Her past solo exhibitions include “Metaphorical Expressions”” at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, New Jersey, The Art House and the Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, “Scrambled Realities”, at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, Narrowsburg, N.Y., and “French Curves” at the Creative Center in Chelsea, NY. She has been interviewed and featured in numerous art publications, newspapers and catalogues. Her work is in private and permanent collections in the United States and Internationally.
Her commitment to painting and mixed media mediums have encompassed a number of themes from environmental, animal fantasies, hybrids and the effects of lunar phases on the earth. The love of painting and creating worlds of fantasy are her main focus.
